What to expect on this trip:

Each day will be a full day of ministry. Starting around 9:30 AM and going till around midnight or later each night. Teams will be split up from between 4-12 people each day and sent out throughout the region.

On an average day, we have breakfast together and a time of prayer and worship. From there we split you into teams to go throughout the city to do various outreach and ministry. Lunch will be sent with you. Later in the day, we will meet back up for dinner. After dinner, we will send groups out to churches in the region where we will be leading nightly services. Following the services, we will meet for a debrief of the day to share testimonies of what God has done! (This is one of our favorite times)

Potential types of ministry include; street evangelism, treasure hunts, church services, prophetic sessions, prison ministry, juvenile detention ministry, praying and ministering at local businesses, meeting with business leaders, and going into hospitals and children's hospitals to pray for the sick, visiting orphanages and conducting after school care, feeding the poor, food packaging and distribution, and meeting with local municipal leaders.

Payment Deadlines:
- Upon Acceptance: $250
- First Deadline of $2,000. Due by Wednesday, January 8th, 2025
- Second Deadline with a trip balance of $3,450. Due by Wednesday, February 12th, 2025
- Final Deadline with a trip balance of $4,450/$4,950. Due by Monday, March 10th, 2025

What are the physical requirements for this trip?

This trip will involve a lot of walking, including up and down stairs. We recommend that you be physically prepared to walk a minimum of 2 miles per day and comfortably climb numerous stairs.

How do flight purchases work?

Our missions department purchases flights on your behalf, which are included in the trip cost as long as they:

Fall within the average ticket cost that has been budgeted
Depart and Return to a Major International Airport

*Any extra travel expenses incurred to travel to the airport are not covered by the cost of this trip.

What are the passport and visa requirements?

You must have a valid passport from your country to enter South Africa. It is very important that your passport expires at least 6 months AFTER the date of your departure from South Africa.

Are there any vaccines required?

No special vaccines are required to visit South Africa, but it is always good to check with your doctor for any recommendations when traveling internationally. COVID-19 vaccines are no longer required for travel to South Africa.

Why do I need to purchase Trip Cancellation/Travel Insurance?

We have found it imperative that you purchase trip cancellation insurance. The cost is reasonable and provides you with two primary benefits:

It will cover you in the event that you must cancel your trip (make sure you review the allowable cancellation reasons).
It will provide you with medical and accident coverage while traveling (many U.S. health plans do not cover you while traveling overseas. please check with your health plan).

When are payments due?

A non-refundable $250 deposit will be required upon acceptance and is necessary to reserve your place on the team.

What is not included in the trip cost?

Personal money for snacks and souvenirs (as schedule allows)
Trip Insurance (mandatory)
Passport Fees
Transportation to and from your desired departure airport.

Please note that a valid passport (expiring on or after October 1, 2025) is required to reserve your spot, and a copy of your passport must be submitted with your application or emailed to Grace Place Ministries.

What is your Payments, Refunds, & Cancellation Policy?

All airlines require full payment (which is non-refundable) when flights are booked and our lodging while in South Africa also needs payments in advance. We set our payment schedule to coincide with these deposit and payment requirements. As a result, all payments for the Grace Place South Africa Mission Trip are non-refundable, and it is unlikely that refunds are possible in the event you cancel.

What if Grace Place cancels the trip?

This is highly unlikely to happen. However, if the trip must be canceled because the US Government and/or the South African Government issues travel restrictions, we will work with the hotels and airlines to get you the best possible refund.

Do I need Travel Insurance?

We require you to purchase travel insurance that includes trip interruption and cancellation coverage. There are several companies that offer this coverage, and one that we recommend is Trawick International. They are known to pay claims in a timely fashion, and their rates are reasonable.

What currency is accepted in South Africa and how much should I plan on spending while there?

The national currency of South Africa is the Rand. Some places accept credit cards. Generally, it is safe to use credit cards, but we will do our best to let you know when it is not safe to do so. We recommend that you make an initial ATM withdrawal of $100-$200 when you arrive at the airport to have South African Rand on hand during your trip for small expenses, snacks, and souvenirs.

Please make sure to let your bank or credit card company know that you will be in South Africa so they can make sure your card will work.

Do we need adapters/converters for electrical devices?

South Africa has 230V. - Generally, Apple power adapters and most computers already convert 230V/120V to the proper voltage, so you only need an adapter for the plug for those devices. What about room assignments?

The cost of the trip is based on double occupancy. Husbands/wives will obviously share a room. Those traveling solo will be paired with another person. If you would like to be paired with someone specific, please let us know. Single occupancy may be available for a surcharge. Please inquire about that if you are wanting to have your own room. The number of single rooms will be very limited.

What kind of clothes should I pack?

The weather is usually beautiful in April there may be rain, but it should be between a low in the mid-50s and a high in the upper 70s. Dress is casual for most outreach but you will need service clothes for each night and some of the days when doing any sort of conference or public speaking event. Comfortable walking shoes are a necessity!

Is it safe to drink the water in South Africa?

Most of the places that we visit will have safe drinking water while in South Africa. However, there may be some days when that is not possible such as in a township or other type of outreach. We will provide bottled water to each team at the beginning of the day.
